Like the trumpet, the trombone is one of the most versatile, dynamic, flexible and expressive musical instruments. It covers an incredibly wide range of sounds and moods. Whether a classical sacred work, a military march or a powerful fanfare, a pop song or a huge orchestral arrangement - the trombone is an indispensable instrument in a vast majority of musical styles. However, it?s extremely difficult to emulate, even more than the trumpet, due to the presence of the slide - a true challenge for developers of virtual instruments. That?s why we chose it next.

MADNESS WONDERFUL (2010 UK 2-CD Reissue - Originally released in 1999, Wonderful was the first new material from the Madness camp since 1988’s The Madness and the first album that featured all seven original members since 1984’s Keep Moving, after which Mike Barson took leave of the band for a while.

Spawning the catchy single ‘Lovestruck’ plus darker material like ‘Johnny The Horse’ and ‘Drip Fed Fred’ (the video to which is included here and features the inimitable Ian Dury), Wonderful acts as the link between the nutty Madness of yore and the resplendent, sophisticated force they have become with 2009’s brilliant ‘The Liberty Of Norton Folgate’ album.

SAM's trombone trio have a wide three-octave span from C2 to C5. A solo bass trombone extends this compass down to F1, performing unlooped sustains, two types of marcato and staccato notes. The bass instrument matches the three-trombone ensemble for power and precision — my only regret is that we didn't get two bass trombones playing in unison to make that classic '60s big band sound!

3 1/2 years after the initial release of the outstanding Chris Hein Horns solo instrument library we finished a major update. Version 1.5 is based on the NI Kontakt Player 2 and was completely re-programmed with loads of new functions thanks to Kontakts scripting features. The library contains four solo instruments - Alto-Sax, Tenor-Sax, Trumpet, Trombone and an aditional Trumpet-Section. There have never been nuanced instruments like these created by a computer.
