sherlock holmes 2009/size 1gb

Sherlock Holmes is a 2009 film in which important elements, including the protagonists Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, are borrowed from the well-known stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. The film was directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin. The screenplay by Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham and Simon Kinberg was developed from a story by Lionel Wigram and Michael Robert Johnson. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law portray Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, respectively.

In 1891 London, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) race to prevent a human sacrifice ritual conducted by Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong). Holmes and Watson stop the sacrifice just in time and neutralize Lord Blackwood while Holmes saves Watson from a glass shard Blackwood used to kill his enemies that he barely sees until the last second, after which the police, led by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), arrive and arrest him.

Blackwood's execution occurs three months later, during which Holmes has become bored without a new case. Watson prepares to leave 221B Baker Street to establish his own business, and he intends to marry Mary Morstan (Kelly Reilly). Blackwood requests Holmes' presence on the day of his execution, and warns him that three more deaths will occur after his execution that will change the very nature of their world. Blackwood is executed by hanging, and declared dead by Dr. Watson himself.

Holmes is re-acquainted with Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams), a world-class criminal Holmes is smitten with. She offers him a sum of money to pursue a case of a missing red-haired midget by the name of Reordan. Holmes disguises himself to find the identity of Adler's employer, but can only surmise that he is a professor.

Three days after Blackwood's execution, his tomb is found shattered, from the inside out, and an eyewitness reports seeing Blackwood walking away. Holmes, Watson, and Lestrade find Blackwood's coffin contains the body of the red-haired midget. Holmes follows clues from a pocket watch on the body to the midget's home, where they discover several chemistry experiments. They avoid capture by three thugs that have arrived to destroy the evidence in the home. An elaborate chase ensues, with Holmes and Watson narrowly escaping death several times, and ending with a steamship that was being built in a naval yard sinking in the river Thames; the pair are then arrested for property damage.

Watson is soon released on bail by Miss Morstan, while Holmes is left in jail and later taken to the Temple of the Four Orders, an occult-dabbling secret society. Their leaders; Sir Thomas (James Fox) and Lord Coward (Hans Matheson), reveal Blackwood was a former member, and plead for Holmes to help stop him. Holmes declines their generous offers of reward but continues to pursue the case on his own terms.

As Holmes and Watson investigate, two senior members of the order are killed by Blackwood, through apparently magical means. One of them, Sir Thomas, is drowned in his bathtub and there is no trace of anybody else being present in the room at the time of his death; while the other bursts into flames when he attempts to shoot Blackwood during an Order meeting. Blackwood, with the assistance of Lord Coward who is revealed to have been his long time ally, then assumes control of the order, intending to use the Order's power to push for England to retake the United States after their civil war has weakened their defences. Blackwood orders Coward to issue a warrant for Holmes' arrest.

Holmes and Watson follow clues to an industrial slaughterhouse, where they are taunted by Blackwood and forced to rescue Adler from a deadly conveyor belt trap. Watson chases after Blackwood but is caught by a tripwire, setting off an explosion; Watson is able to warn Holmes and Adler to safety but is badly injured himself in the explosion. Holmes learns he is wanted by the police and goes into hiding, and reflects on the clues he has collected. He comes to realize that Blackwood is attempting to cast a spell based on the sphinx, with the three murdered tied to three of the mythical creature's animal constituents: man, ox, and eagle. Holmes deduces the fourth symbol the lion, represents the British Parliament. Holmes allows Lestrade to capture and bring him to the Home Secretary. Overconfident, Lord Coward reveals Blackwood's plan for wiping out all the Lords but save those loyal followers of his. Holmes escapes, diving into the river Thames, and is rescued by a waiting boat with Watson and Adler in it.
The film's climax takes place on the unfinished Tower Bridge.

From the preview, I thought it could have gone one of three ways: 1. A horrible attempt at an R-rated comedy in the same fashion of a pretty good comedy a decade ago. (Like College tried for American Pie, and failed) 2. A mediocre R-rated comedy with bits here and there. 3. A movie that knows what it's going for and hits its mark.

Kungfu Chefs 2009 DVDRip

Movies #10
Kungfu Chefs 2009 DVDRip

Kungfu Chefs / 2009 / DVDRip / 695 MB

I guess it's only Chinese that we can include everything that moves into our gastronomical cuisine, and for films, everything can be kung-fu-ed. From card sharks to period dramas and even hip-hop and mah-jong, you can slap some characters who are versed in the martial arts of wire-fu into a story, and conjure some bland cinematic magic with it. To boost attendance numbers, throw in a singer / teen idol in it, and you probably won't go too wrong. Kung Fu Chefs follow this tired formula. While there are some limited worthy moments in the film (to be explained), it's below mediocre throughout with uncharismatic leads, weak characters, and having a story which smelt like another.

If Hong Kong movies are running out of steam in coming out with original tales, then this one would be testament that there's some thumbing through of some South Korean screenplays, given some resemblance here to the K-movie of last year - Le Grand Chef, and how that film had some influence over this one. You have a disgraced master in Sammo Hung's Master Wong, a culinary expert and village chief, who fell from grace given a village-wide food poisoning incident. Then there's some unresolved family rivalry, where his nephew (played by Fan Siu-Wong, last seen in Ip Man) accuses Wong of usurping his father's pride as well as a legendary chopper which is quite nicely designed with its dragon-motif handle.

Red Cliff II (2009) [DVD rip]

Movies #12
Red Cliff II (2009) [DVD rip]

Red Cliff II (2009),DVD rip/ CD1 size 700mb,CD2 size 680mb

Worth the six month wait. Red Cliff II improves upon nearly everything in Red Cliff, offering better action, acting, emotions and entertainment. Easily the best movie John Woo has made in ten years. While that may sound like a backhanded compliment, the straight skinny is this: Red Cliff II is pretty damn good.

It needed to be better and it is. John Woo knocks one out of the park with Red Cliff II, besting the solid but somewhat underwhelming Red Cliff I and delivering an enormously entertaining spectacle that should please mass audiences and the John Woo faithful. Who won't be pleased? Probably the people who think that John Woo only equals gunplay, or those who find his particular brand of cinematic romanticism to be the height of unintentional hilarity. To be fair, Red Cliff II contains moments that could cause giggles, but they're simply a side effect of Woo's pronounced themes of brotherhood, and indeed the homoeroticism actually makes the film more enjoyable. More than anything, Red Cliff II works because it feels like a John Woo film, and builds effectively towards an exciting and entertaining finish. Neither film is an instant classic, their commercialism and obvious execution making it difficult to immediately label them such. Given time, however, the two Red Cliff films may yet be seen as popular art par excellence.

At the end of Red Cliff I, power-hungry Prime Minister Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi) was set to attack the Shu-Wu Coalition camped out at the port of Red Cliff. Cao Cao is confident and rightly so; his numbers are superior, and his initial move - sending diseased corpses to Red Cliff - reduces morale and thins his enemy's ranks. Fearing the end for his people, Shu General Liu Bei (You Yong) retreats, taking with him trusted lieutenants Zhao Yun (Hu Jun), Guan Yu (Ba Sen Zha Bu), and Zhang Fei (Zang Jingsheng). That leaves Wu leader Sun Quan (Chang Chen) and his people manning Red Cliff, with the only Shu holdover being strategist Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro), who refuses to leave things undone. With knowing smiles and twinkling eyes, Zhuge Liang and Wu strategist Zhou Yu (Tony Leung Chiu-Wau) react to this crisis like any sane men would: they compete with one another to see if they can each fulfill impossible tasks. Zhuge Liang must produce 100,000 arrows in three days, while Zhou Yu must arrange for the death of Cao Cao's naval captains. The price for failure? Beheading.

Betting on such impossible odds with your own head sounds foolhardy, but that's simply how John Woo's romantic heroes joust and parry with one another. Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang show a nearly uncomfortable amount of admiration and respect for one another. And yet, they're also rivals who know that one day they may be foes. The actual Three Kingdoms lore bears out this eventuality, giving that onscreen relationship an ironic edge, but John Woo seems to be less concerned with the past or the future than with the now. Themes of brotherhood, friendship, and honor were already present in Three Kingdoms, but Woo takes them and runs wild, amping them up dramatically while making the characters and situations his own. In his hands, the Three Kingdoms seems only a stone's throw from the thematic excesses of The Killer or A Better Tomorrow. Chow Yun-Fat would have been right at home here.

Compared to the first Red Cliff, this second part moves much quicker, dispensing with backstory and going straight to the strategy and action. While Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu devise clever ways to achieve their impossible tasks, Sun Xiang-Shang (Vicki Zhao) sneaks behind enemy lines, spying on Cao Cao's forces while also making an unwitting friend (Tong Dawei). When the eve of the battle finally arrives, everything seems aligned in Cao Cao's favor - most especially the wind, which makes a fire attack a bad idea for the Coalition. However, Zhuge Liang can apparently read the weather, and surmises that the wind will change in their favor. The trick then becomes waiting until the right time to attack, and the build-up is surprisingly engrossing. Woo uses his celebrated bag of tricks (freeze frames, dissolves, romantic montage, artful slow-motion) to create tension and emotion, with time-outs for some reverent acknowledgement of brotherhood and honor. It's all very inspiring in a cornball cinema kind of way, but this is John Woo's world and by the time he rolls out his old tropes, he's seemingly earned them. His technique is transparent, but he gets his desired emotional effect.

It's great that Woo can fall back on his old tricks, since many were previously deemed inappropriate for cynical Hollywood audiences. Ironically, one Woo signifier that he did squeeze into his Hollywood work - those damn white pigeons - is present here too, but the birds actually have a narrative function. Woo's use of women is also somewhat novel (at least for him). Vicki Zhao's Sun Shang-Xiang plays a large part, and makes a point of showing that her sex shouldn't be an issue. She also spends a good deal of the film in drag, and gets in on some of that John Woo homoeroticism herself - details that could prove ample fodder for gender film theorists who like to give Woo the raised eyebrow. However, there's also Lin Chi-Ling's Xiao Qiao, who seemed in danger of becoming Red Cliff's Helen of Troy, what with the indications that Cao Cao was going to war for her. That motivation is never truly confirmed, but it does offer Xiao Qiao a chance to get involved, as she plays a very key - and surprisingly tense - role in the final battle. Only a flower vase in the first film, Lin Chi-Ling does quite a bit more this time.

Okay, so the acting isn't the best. Neither are the special effects. Despite this, I've been thoroughly entertained and captivated for the entirety of the last 80 minutes by an excellent plot that keeps you on your toes, genuinely excellent humour and enough confusion to keep you thinking but not to frustrate.
