In this series of lessons we will learn how to use MatchMover to track an object as if it was our scene, then finish the shot with Maya and After Effects. Using MatchMover we can find the movements of a real life object and move a 3D object to match. We will begin this project by manually tracking our sequence in MatchMover and exporting it for use in Maya. We will then take our solved camera into our Maya scene and move our object into place. We will then learn how to capture our 3D environment reflections and create some helpful matte layers. Once we have rendered our Maya sequence, we will learn how to combine all of our images in After Effects. We will learn about processing our background footage to capture traveling mattes, as well as many different ways to combine our various mattes to create effects. We will finish by adding a silhouette and color correcting our images.

In this series of lessons, we will be taking you through the process of rendering your Maya scene into multiple passes, and using some advanced techniques for compositing these passes using Nuke.

Matt starts off by taking you On Location to demonstrate the capturing of the raw plate and HDRI images. From there he goes through creating the final HDRI image in Photoshop. The next chapters include detailed tracking in SynthEyes, setting up the scene in Maya, creating masks in After Effects, Animation of the 3D objects in Maya, adding particle effects, lighting, and render layers. Last, Matt composites the final scenes in Autodesk Composite.

Plot: The photographer Leon lives with his girlfriend and waitress Maya waiting for a chance to get in the photo business. When Maya contacts their friend Jurgis, he schedules a meeting for Leon with the successful owner of arts gallery Susan Hoff; she analyzes Leons work and asks him to improve the quality of his photos. During the night, the upset Leon decides to wander on the streets taking pictures with his camera, and he follows three punks down to the subway station; when the gang attacks a young woman, Leon defends her and the guys move on. On the next morning, Leon discovers that the woman is missing. He goes to the police station, but Detective Lynn Hadley does not give much attention to him and discredits his statement. Leon becomes obsessed to find what happened with the stranger and he watches the subway station. When he sees the elegant butcher Mahogany in the train, Leon believes he might be a murderer and stalks him everywhere, in the beginning of his journey to the darkness
