...And the circus... was the fourth and final album released from the Kyuss catalogue. This album seems thought of by some as weak and uninventive. However, after repeated listens it is possibly my favourite album by them.

With his astonishingly accomplished guitar playing, Stevie Ray Vaughan ignited the blues revival of the '80s. Vaughan drew equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush, and Muddy Waters and rock & roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as the stray jazz guitarist like Kenny Burrell, developing a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. Vaughan bridged the gap between blues and rock like no other artist had since the late '60s. For the next seven years, Stevie Ray was the leading light in American blues, consistently selling out concerts while his albums regularly went gold. The sunkissed sounds of balmy nights and summer breezes, smoky lounges and sandy beaches are bought together in Sunset Sessions, the biggest Sample Magic release to date.

If you didn't know these were cover tunes, they could have passed as a new tesla cd. Tesla did not just rip these songs off to make quick cash, they actually took the time to learn them and do a decent job. It flat out rocks. One of the best songs done during these sessions on a bonus CD from a major retailer is War Pigs, just an excellent rendition, great guitar resonance, and timing. Done only as tesla could have. Other good tracks are Space Trucking, Honky Tonk Women, and Ball of Confusion.

The Sex Pistols may have been the first British punk rock band, but the Clash were the definitive British punk rockers. Where the Pistols were nihilistic, the Clash were fiery and idealistic, charged with righteousness and a leftist political ideology. From the outset, the band was more musically adventurous, expanding its hard rock & roll with reggae, dub, and rockabilly among other roots musics. Furthermore, they were blessed with two exceptional songwriters in Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, each with a distinctive voice and style. The Clash copped heavily from classic outlaw imagery, positioning themselves as rebels with a cause. As a result, they won a passionately devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic. While they became rock & roll heroes in the U.K., second only to the Jam in terms of popularity, it took the Clash several years to break into the American market, and when they finally did in 1982, they imploded several months later. Though the Clash never became the superstars they always threatened to become, they restored passion and protest to rock & roll. For a while, they really did seem like "the only band that mattered."
