This frequently astonishing documentary is about the controversial (some say unethical ) new revolutionary technology called Synthetic Biology.
It's presented by Dr Adam Rutherford who is a geneticist, author and broadcaster. He is also an editor for the science journal Nature and a writer for The Guardian newspaper. and has a PhD in the genetics of the eye.

Quite early on in this program we meet a white goat at a farm in Utah named Freckles shown above it looks like a regular goat but it carries a spider gene that makes it produce web proteins in its milk. Filter the milk and you can spin the proteins into spider?s web silk, some of the strongest material known to man it is even stronger than Kevlar which is used in bullet proof vests.
The presenter Dr Adam Rutherford, looks frequently stunned as he encounters yeast engineered to produce diesel fuel in just one day, a mouse cyborg, and ?bio-hackers? in a suburban garage. It?s a terrific film that will send you away with a new idea of what the next 50 years may hold, if life becomes one big programmable machine. We also encounter Synthetic Neuro Biology which promises to create biological computers which have amazing future prospects.

Also their is an extensive collection of previous Horizons available (in a vast array of scientific subjects) which have both a scientific interest and a historic interest as the older documentaries portray how science and technology have advanced over such a breakneck speed over the past few decades.
