Plot: Flirting Scholar 2 is a prequel to the original, with Qiu Xiang being known as Qian Qian in the former part of her life, before losing her memory and being adopted by Madam Hua and given a new name. Tang Bo Hu is one who has always been standing up for justice since young, and is good friends with scholars Zhu Zhi Shan, Wen Zheng Ming and Zhou Wen Bing.
Tang Bo Hu's mother sends him to study at Qingfeng Monastery, but he can't bear the austere and monotonous life at the monastery. Falsely accused of murder the two victims were forced to endure torturous punishments. Lovers Little Cabbage and a scholar are put on trial for the murder of Cabbage’s husband by overdose of aphrodisiac, which caused his massive member (the size of a donkey’s) to explode. The real culprit is the magistrate’s son, who is committing adultery with the scholar’s wife, which was witnessed by Cabbage. The adulterous couple frame the platonic couple (Cabbage was still a virgin) to cover up their own affair. Most of the film is taken up with the farcical trial, where the judge uses torture to convince the framed lovers to confess. The scholar’s maid and nanny take the case to appeal in the imperial capital. But will anyone listen?

Not for the serious kanji scholar who is looking for an accurate history of the formation of kanji characters, but it is an interesting book to look through. The book gives 24 rules for understanding kanji. The kanji characters used to illustrate these rules have nice illustrations that show where they came from (or the author's creative ideas of where they could come from). The explanations of the kanji are in English and Japanese, and the Japanese is kept fairly basic. Overall this is an enjoyable book and can serve the purpose of simply getting someone interested in kanji and giving a little better idea of what kanji are.
